As everyone knows, poplars grow in arid or half-arid areas which are not suitable for plants to live. But who knows competitions still exist among them? It';s found that in spring every sapling in a poplar nursery grows so well that the whole nursery becomes very flourishing. But ,when, autumn comes, you will find that the height of the saplings differs greatly. The saplings in the middle of the forest are taller than those around, and the ones in the north are taller than those in the south. It is explained that all the plants have the phototaxis. It';s especially obvious for the poplars. Because of the different positions and conditions, some saplings are tall, while some are short.
“How can you see the rainbow if there';s not a storm … ”To little poplar trees, the chance to catch enough sunshine is little because they grow among or under other trees. So they have to compete each other violently to grow as tall as possible in order to get more sunshine. As a result, some little trees become winners in the adverse circumstances and grow better while others die. Plants are like this, so are human beings. In modern society, especially in this highly-developed global village, every individual is independent as well as connected with each other. As our development is similar to the competition of poplars for sunshine, we will be confronted with various of challenges at any moment. And we will face many difficulties as the society develops and the environment changes. This may influence our future and destiny to some extent, but if we keep struggling and never shrink back, we will have the chance of a fair competition, the preparation of a decisive battle and the hope of success. There are numerous examples throughout the history. In ancient times, wasn';t it in the adverse circumstances that Xie An bobbed up like a cork and Cao Cao consoled himself with the imagination of plums to built up his career? In modern history, during the eight-years-long anti-Japanese-invasion-war, Chinese people won one and another victories barely with millet and riffles in face of enemy';s powerful planes and cannons. It was definitely the spirit of never shrinking back that created those miracles and a new China with rapid changes. In addition, Edison, a American scientist, finally brought us brightness in dark after hundreds of thousands of failures which he always treated with a smile. There are too many similar examples, but how many people can truly understand what they mean?
Nowadays, the society becomes much more complicated and diversified than ever. For example, the application of industrial intelligence, the reform of state-run enterprises, the reduction of public organizations, the financial crisis and so on. All this results in serious unemployment. A large number of people lost their jobs which they depend on for survival. Some of them didn';t lose heart, instead they try hard to develop their re-employment project and successfully build up a whole new world of their own, even though they are quite annoyed and indignant. On the contrary, some of them do nothing to change the bad situation but curse or complain or stay in low spirits under the pressure of the society';s transition. Undoubtedly, they would be losers in this society for lack of a indomitable and unremitting spirit. Only the winners of competition are able to survive, so we must remind ourselves all the time that we must be the winner of all competitions at any cost.
There is no absolutely perfect thing in the world. Even God is interested in playing tricks on us every now and then. If we want to make outstanding achievements or accomplishments, we must go through all the hardships, challenge all the difficulties and defeat all the enemies. Don';t you know that cactus narrows its leaves in order to adapt to the harsh environment of desert, and that poplar strives to overpass other trees for more sunshine? In order to survive, let';s challenge the adversity!
