埃尔隆德是一位千岁高龄的精灵族英雄，受人尊敬。他曾和伊西尔德王子并肩对抗索隆的恐怖，亲眼见证了伊西尔德挥剑砍下索隆的手指，把魔戒之王戴到自己的手上，他曾经劝说伊西尔德放弃魔戒，把魔戒投入末日之焰，但却被伊西尔德拒绝了。不久，魔戒又背叛了伊西尔德，使他死于非命。之后，魔戒便杳无音讯。
当魔戒再次出现时，只有埃尔隆德清楚这到底意味着什么。“我们别无选择，必须把魔戒投入莫都的末日之焰里。”埃尔隆德的声音有些颤抖，“魔戒队必须马上出发！”
