XZ:  Hi! CY. Have you listened to Jay Chou new songs?

CY:  Of course I have! I have become his hard-core fan since 5 years ago.

XZ:  The songs are really wonderful and fantastic. I heard the album became best-sale this month.

CY:  I am very proud of him.

XZ:  so am I!

Good morning, Mrs. Ong, Mrs.Tan, teachers and fellow Temasekians.(Greeting)

CY:  I am CY.

XZ:  I am XZ.

We are together from 3 Graciousness.

XZ:   He may be still young, but look out world! He may surprise you! If you ask around, many would say that the music world has a new leader, real king of music: Jay Chou.

CY:   Jay Chou is a popular Taiwanese musician and singer specializing in R&B and rap. He combines both Chinese and Western musical styles to produce a fresh sound that is quite unlike what is produced in mainstream Taiwanese pop, and his unique lyrics touch on various issues.

XZ:   For example, in "Dad I am Back", domestic violence is mentioned, in "Rice Fields", eco-awareness is mentioned, and in "Wounds of War", the destructiveness of war is mentioned. Jay's music is popular throughout Asia and Overseas Chinese in the world as well.

CY:   But do you know when he was a child, he was never too good at academic subjects. Being unable to pass the entrance exam to his selected university, he lost hope of a well paying job, became a waiter.

XZ:   A lot of people predicted that he won't have much potential in life. His mom always worried about his future, but he never did. He recalls, "I knew I still had music to depend on. For everything else, I've had too much confidence, but it is for my musical talent that I'm so sure of myself."

CY:   When he was 14, his parents got divorced; He was raised by his mother who was a teacher in a high school. Growing up in a single family, he became very independent, quiet and anti-social. Without many friends, he had a hobby of daydreaming, fantasizing into his world of music.

XZ:   So how did Jay get into music? At the age of three, he started learning to play the piano. He recalls his mother being very strict, to make sure he practiced sufficiently. Later, he learned to play the cello. Today, both are two instruments that he plays with superior dexterity.

CY:   Jay first entered the music industry when he appeared in a talent show as a pianist with his friend. Although their performance wasn't exceptional, the producer saw talent in the music composition written by Jay and decided to give him a chance. He was initially hired to write music for others. Although many of his songs became popular, most people were unaware that they were his creations.

XZ:   In year 2000, Jay was given his chance to produce an album of his own. He released his first album Jay, which, much to everyone's surprise, became an instant hit. When his second album Fantasy was released, he was already among one of the top pop stars in the Asian community.

CY:   His first two albums were nearly created all by himself - songwriting, producing, harmonizing, etc. In his concerts, it is not unusual to see him play the accompaniment as well as sing at the same time onstage, while his fans cheer wildly from below.

XZ:   By now, Jay has won awards from all over the world. Today, he is often regarded as the best Asian male singer, and the reputation earned him a title of "Small King of R & B"

CY:   In 2005, Jay played the leading role in the movie Initial D .Jay won many awards for his role in the movie. The movie was a huge success and premiered in Asia and western countries as well.

XZ:   Jay hopes to break into the music industry overseas in North America, despite his limited English proficiency. He says that his music is universal and that language is not important.

CY:   Of course. There is no boundary in the world of music.

XZ:   I think so. Jay is multi-talent, intelligent music genius.

CY:   The beautiful rhythm and attractive voice has captured my heart as well as others, I always fell in his sea of music, where I found fantasy and ancient Chinese culture.

XZ:   Now his 7th album –still fantasy has released. Let us immerse in his new fantasy of music.
